The origin of golden tips Assam tea
The Assam (Golden Tips) tea plant, or Camellia assamica, is grown and cultivated in the Assam valley in northeast India. This black tea variety is one of the oldest in the region, with a long history and fascinating tradition. The ‘Golden Tip’ of Assam tea leaves derives its name from the golden colors seen on the leaves during its second flush and peak harvesting.
The golden, mahogany color of brewed Assam Banaspaty tea, and its lovely notes, make it one of the most sought-after loose leaf teas in the world. Teafulness works closely with suppliers to ensure high-quality tea leaves and sustainable practices. We’re delighted to be one of the premier places to buy Assam tea in the west.

How to brew loose leaf Assam tea
The perfect cup of Assam tea begins in tradition (and a touch of science).
No two cups of Gold Tips Assam tea will truly be the same but that’s what makes it such an enjoyable experience. Factors determining the flavor of your brewed Assam tea will include the amount used, water quality, steep time, temperatures, and personal taste. That said, brewing instructions for loose-leaf Assam tea is as follows:
- Using an electric kettle, water warmer, or teapot, bring the temperature of 8 oz (236ml) of water to 90 to 95°C (194 to 205°F)
- Meanwhile, preheat the cup you intend to drink with (this prevents the hot water from instantly cooling if it were going into a cold cup)
- Measure 1 teaspoon (about 3 to 4 grams) of our high-grade Assam loose tea leaves and place them into the water boiling/warming device
-
Optional: Place the Assam tea leaves into an infuser before steeping
- Cover the lid of the water vessel and allow the tea to steep for 2 minutes
- Pour the brewed Assam tea into your preheated cup and enjoy
Water temperature control is one of the most important elements of a good cup of Assam. This is why we recommend using a smart water kettle (or a thermometer) to reach the perfect temperature. Too cold and you won’t pull the subtle flavors from the tea, and too hot will make the tea taste bitter and unappealing.
Experiment with your Assam brewing and adjust it to your taste. Enjoy the experience of the steeping process. Reflect and enjoy the calmness.
